About the series

Ask someone why they chose a treatment and they will give you a reason. It will be articulate, plausible, and often not the reason.

Most of what drives a prescribing decision, a patient dropping off an app, or a stakeholder rejecting your recommendation happens before anyone starts explaining themselves. Behavioural science is how we get at that layer: the memory shortcuts, the trust calibrations, the friction nobody mentions in a debrief because they never noticed it.

Across five sessions, HRW Shift, our resident behavioural science team, show what that looks like in practice. Where digital health quietly loses the people it was built for. Why a technically accurate chart can still lose the room. What it takes for a brand to come to mind in clinic rather than merely be recognised on a slide. Why HCPs and patients both over trust and under trust AI, sometimes in the same week.

Expect real healthcare examples and techniques you can put to work on your next project!

Digital Health for All? Understanding Inequity in Digital Health

This session explores why some groups are more likely to benefit from digital health solutions than others and when digital may not be the right solution at all. Drawing on behavioural science evidence and real-world examples, we'll examine barriers to access, engagement, and cultural relevance, and identify practical approaches to design more inclusive and effective interventions.

Help Stakeholders See What You See: A Behavioural Science Approach to Data Visualisation

14.30 BST | 15.30 CET | 09.30 EST

In this session, we'll explore how principles from behavioural science can help you choose, design and present visualisations that communicate more clearly. You'll leave with practical techniques for creating graphs that direct attention to what matters most and help audiences get the right takeaway from your data.

Recall vs Recognition: Understanding How Memory Shapes Decisions

15.00 BST | 16.00 CET | 10.00 EST

This session explores the behavioural science of memory, unpacking the difference between recognition and recall and why that distinction matters for healthcare brands. Through practical examples, we'll examine how brands and messages become mentally available at the point of decision-making, and how understanding the gap between recognition and recall can help us design more effective research and engagement strategies.

The Paradox of Trust in AI: Why HCPs and Patients Both Over Trust and Under Trust

15.30 BST | 16.30 CET | 10.30 EST

In this session, we'll explore the behavioural science of AI trust, examining why people sometimes reject useful AI recommendations and other times place too much faith in inaccurate ones. Using real-world healthcare examples, we'll discuss how organisations can build appropriately calibrated trust rather than blind acceptance or scepticism.

Behavioural Science FAQs

16.00 BST | 17.00 CET | 11.00 EST

To close the series, we're handing the agenda over to you. Bring your questions about this year's sessions, behavioural science fundamentals, or how to apply these approaches in your own work, and have them answered live by members of HRW Shift, our resident behavioural science team.
